4 Children Burnt In Swimming Pool..Very Low pH Level

All 4 children have varying degrees of blisters caused by swimming in pool whilst on holiday in private house in Portugal. The swimming pool pH level measured at 3.

Owner struggling to get pH up to 7.

Any suggestions?

Thanks for your question

I would say that getting a pool pH level down to 3 would take an enormous amount of muriatic acid, or some other massive outside source. Fill water is normally around 7.2ppm here in the states, so I'm not too sure what it is in Portugal.

I would first recommend that the pool owner get a Taylor Reagent FAS-DPD K-2006 pool water test kit. It's the best one on the market.

Next, you can go to this link to learn how to raise the pool pH level quickly and with the least amount of effort:

You can use either baking soda, sometimes called sodium bicarbonate, or 20 Mule Team Borax to raise the pool pH level and bring it to an acceptable level of 7.6ppm - 7.8ppm.

If the fill water has an extremely low pH level, I would look into getting the water delivered in.

Hope this helps and I wish the children luck with their blisters

Robert
