About How Long Does The Chlorine Level Has Dropped To Ideal Level After Shock?

by Lin
(Auckland New Zealand)

The pool has been shocked and swimmers need to wait until the chlorine level has dropped to the ideal levels.

Can I know that about how long the chlorine level can drop to the right level for swimming?

Thanks for the question Lin

I would encourage you to get a Taylor FAS-DPD K-2006 pool water test kit. It's the best one and the most accurate.

You want to wait until the pool chlorine level gets between 1.5ppm - 3.5ppm, although you can safely swim at a level of 5.0ppm.

It's difficult to say exactly how long it will take before the chlorine level drops to a lower level due to many factors; the sun, heat, CYA level (stabilizer), etc...

To be on the safe side, you might not want anyone in the pool for at least 24 - 36 hours. Afterwards you can re-test the chlorine and make adjustments after that.

If you need to use the pool faster, there's a chemical called Thiosulphate that can be purchased at most pool supply stores. This is a pool chlorine neutralizer that will force the chlorine level down, but use it sparingly and only when you really need it.

Hope this helps and have a great Summer
