After Shocking With Liquid Swimming Pool Chlorine...3 Gallons...

by Thomas
(California)

When adding chemicals or shocking with liquid swimming pool chlorine, is there anything that you have to stay out of the water for? In other words, can the pool be used right after adding chemicals?

How long do I need to wait before going swimming?

Thanks for your question Thomas

After you add any chemicals it is generally thought that a 30 minute wait is good enough to go swimming.

Personally I've always told my customers a good 2 hour wait is best and if you're adding pool chemicals to balance anything out, 1 complete turn-over of the water is essential.

Normally this is about 10 - 12 hours, depending on your gallons per minute, which is usually about 45 GPM for a residential pool.

After a pool shock it's not the time but when the pool chlorine level is down between 1.5ppm - 3.5ppm. This might take a few days depending how high the chlorine level is, the sun, heat, etc...things that would normally use up the pool chlorine.
