AIR AND BLOW BACK..LOSS OF SUCTION..

by Fergus Wrinn
(Bryson Qe. Canada)

My filter is creating air in the chamber. When I stop the pump for any reason I get back pressure at the skimmer also when I attach the creepy-crawler it will only clean for a while as the chamber builds up more air inside and less suction.

What is my problem?

Thanks for the question Fergus

I would first direct you to this link to see if anything matches:

Above Ground Swimming Pool Losing Water..Running Sand Filter System..

You could have a suction/return side leak in the pipes/plumbing.

You have intake lines going to the filter, and return lines going back to the pool. If you have a crack in the return line you'll be losing water.

If it's an air leak in the intake line, you'll be losing suction.

Possible sources:

*The pump (clogged or broken impeller and/or basket)

*Bad or old pump lid o-ring

*Loose pump lid

*Fittings at the pump caused by running the pump dry

*Pump seal

*The skimmer(s) or plumbing between the pump and the skimmer

*Cracked or broken plumbing underground

You can use a grease-pen and measure the amount of water in the pool. If you lose more than 1/4 inch of water in a 24 hr. period, you might have a leak. That will require a leak detection company to fix.

Good luck with your pool and have a great Summer

Robert
