Can I Go Swimming In A Chlorine Swimming Pool While Pregnant?

by Michelle
(Avondale, Arizona)

Is it safe to swim in a swimming pool with chlorine while I'm pregnant?

I'm 20 weeks going on 21 this Saturday and I live in Arizona.

It's really HOT in the summer so I went and bought one of those $500 dollar pools you set up because we are always having family gatherings.

My question is it safe for the baby for me to be swimming in the pool even though it has chlorine and all those other things and pool chemicals to keep it clean?

Thanks for your question Michelle

I believe that millions of pregnant women, over the years, swam each and every day without any harmful side effects of the pool chlorine.

That being said, pool chlorine is used as a sanitizer for swimming pools and is considered a chemical.

By ingesting chlorine directly it can/or will have very bad consequences.

If you keep your swimming pool chlorine at a safe level, 1.5ppm - 3.5ppm, there should be no harmful effects on your baby.

But, a mother's intuition is always right, so, if you feel the least bit uncomfortable in getting in a chlorinated swimming pool, then I would encourage you to stay out.

It's up to you and I know you'll make the right decision.

Robert
