Can I Mix Chlorine Tablets?

Can you mix brands of chlorine tablets in your chlorinator?

The packaging says not to mix chemicals but says nothing about different brands.

Thanks for the question

To the best of my knowledge, as long as they're Trichlor tabs there shouldn't an issue with mixing different brands of chlorine tablets.

Most chlorine tabs are Trichlor pucks that are different sizes.

A 3" tablet is about 8 oz. and will raise the free chlorine level by 5.5 ppm and the cyanuric acid (CYA) by 3.3 ppm in a 10,000 gallon pool.

There's smaller 3 oz. 1" tablets and 1 oz. 1/2" tablets.

Remember that using Trichlor tablets will normally raise the CYA level in your pool so it needs to be tested weekly.

I have used for years and recommend a Taylor FAS-DPD K-2006 pool test kit.

Trichlor tabs are acidic (which may decrease your pH level) so you may need to use a use a pH Up product or sodium bicarb.

Hope this helps and have a fun and safe swimming season.
