Swimming Pool Prices

Cost of swimming pool installation and understand the average cost of an inground swimming pool.

A swimming pool can and will be a big decision, but with the proper information, it can be a little easier. You may be thinking, "Yeah, but it's not your $15,000 we're talking about.

I'm the one that has to finance the pool. Well, you're right about that, but, I'm here to help you along this journey.

Do you have an interesting story or comment about your pool? You can go here and write about it

If you are thinking about getting a pool, remember that the cost of installing an above ground pool is less than the cost of inground swimming pool installation.

The cost of swimming pools has gone up in recent years and, with everything else, will continue to increase. Swimming pool prices, well, you can't stop them, but if you make the right decision at the right time, your above ground or inground swimming cost can be tolerated.

If money is an obstacle you may want to consider the many kinds of lap pools.

Inground swimming pool costs will vary depending on the size of your pool, material, design, area of the country, and any kind of landscaping or decks.

Inground Pool Costs

What have you ever started that seemed like a great idea at the time? Something that was good, affordable, and the entire family would enjoy, only for it to blow up in your face? Well, buying a swimming pool is full of hidden costs that, over time, may deplete your savings if you're not careful.

Remember to do your homework, get the best contractor, and ask not just questions, but the right questions.

How About This?

  1. Too easy. If your thinking of a regular concrete pool, be sure to get a reputable dealer or contractor. Be sure all estimates are in writing and keep an eagle-eye on the progress.
  2. Check the contract for all the "if's", "and's", or "but's". Once the work begins, well, the toothpaste back in the tube thing, you know?
  3. Excavation costs can run into the extra thousands of dollars. This is never cheap, but what if your contractor hits a huge rock, then what? If it can't be removed the old fashion way, you pay the difference.
  4. Say goodbye to your landscaping, plants, trees, flowers, fencing, prized Roses and Petunias, humming bird feeder, little yard gnomes, and pretty much anything else in your backyard. I'm not saying the contractor and bulldozers will be reckless, but it's the price of a pool.
  5. You'll probably be responsible for any water, sewer, or electric lines that will be rerouted.
  6. How about a pool water delivery service

Be sure to call the city and/or county to get the proper permits. Also, call the sewer, water, and electric company to make sure where the line are, and if anything should happen, what steps you'll need to take to make things right.

Talk to other people about the cost of swimming pool installation to make an educated decision.

Big Mistakes

Some of the biggest mistakes pool owners make are made with emotions. Yes, a pool is fun, but be sure you fully understand what's involved.

  • Shop around. Don't jump on the first quote a contractor gives you. Use your brain, and try to keep the emotional part of pool ownership under control.
  • Ask questions. If you've gone through this website, and I sure hope you have, you'll know I'm not shy about asking questions. The more you understand, the better off you'll be.
  • Do your homework, then try some of these questions:

    1. Check for the best swimming pool prices. What's the price? Is that the best you can do? There are others out there I like.
    2. Installation cost?
    3. Do I want concrete, fiberglass, or vinyl? What the difference in price, chemical use, longevity, etc...
    4. Does the pool come with full plumbing? What type of filtration system? Why that one?
    5. Any special plumbing required?
    6. What's the warranty? What if it leaks? I need to see specifics.
    7. Do you sub-contract anything? Is he licensed and insured? Is he experienced in these kinds of pools? I need to see proof.
    8. What are the safety features for the filtration system? What would happen if a safety feature fails? If it does fail, who is responsible?
    9. If it does fail, who will fix it? Will you, or do you contract that out to someone else? Who is it? Why do you use them?
    10. Will my personal property tax and insurance go up? Why?
    11. How much for the additional electricity or another energy cost?
    12. How much for any safety features, like a barrier or safety fence?
    13. How much for an electric pool heater?
    14. How about any accessories? A diving board, slide, toys, test kit, safety or solid pool cover, that big inflatable whale with the foot rest and 6-cup holder with lumbar support?
    15. How much for pool water maintenance?
    16. I want to take the time and fully read the contract.
    17. I'm interested in how it looks, but also the plumbing, filtration, flow rate, safety issues, etc...
    18. I want to get at least 3-4 estimates before I proceed.
Ask these questions to anyone trying to sell you a swimming pool. If they can answer these questions and any others you may have to your satisfaction, you'll probably have a good one on your hands.

Only after you have done your homework, talked to contractors, received estimates, talked with the city and county for possible permits, talked to the sewer, water, and electric company, compared models and prices, considered the cost of swimming pool installation, crossed all of your "T's" and dotted your "i's" and lower case "j's" should you proceed.

Always remember this when buying one of these beauties:

    It's Your Money!!

Use it wisely and ask the right questions.

Well, I cannot give you a concrete, no pun intended, answer to the specific question of swimming pool prices or the cost of swimming pool installation, but I can give you a rough estimate so you may gauge whether the cost of inground swimming pool installation is right for you.

To get your answer to the all important question of "What is the installation cost of swimming pools?", it will depend on:

    1. Concrete, Fiberglass, or Vinyl Liner
    2. Pool Size
    3. Design Specs

    This chart may help.

Concrete Pool Fiberglass Pool Vinyl Liner Pool
    $20,000-$50,000 $15,000 - $30,000 $10,000 - $25,000

    Approximate Swimming Pool Prices

    Maybe a little more:

Size Steel Walls w/ Vinyl Liner Polymer Walls w/ Vinyl Liner Cement Walls w/ Vinyl Liner Gunite/Cement
    16X30 $18,000 $19,000 $20,000 $37,000

    20x40 $20,000 $21,000 $22,000 $40,000

A very rough price for the cost of swimming pools

The cost of swimming pool installation may seem a bit overwhelming. If you do your homework and ask the right questions and get an honest answer, and if it's right for you and your budget, and covered all your bases, then I say go for it! Swimming pool prices may vary from state to state so check with your local contractor.

The initial cost of swimming pool building will go away, but the memories of those perfect Summer afternoons will last a lifetime.
