D.E.Filter High Pressure

by JOSEPH GALLO
(SYDNET NSW AUSTRALIA)

I OWN A POOLRITE XL60 DE FILTER. THE PRESSURE KEEPS RISING TO 100 KPA-SHOULD BE 50 TO 80 KPA HAVE BACKWASHED SEVERAL TIMES PRESSURE COMES OK 50 TO 80 ABOUT 3 HOURS LATER HAVE TO BACKWASH AGAIN.

HAVE CLEANED FILTERS WITH DE CLEANER (PUT DE INTO CONTAINER OF DE CLEANER SOLUTION) EVEN CLEANED DE FILTER IN 4 PARTS POOL ACID TO 10 PARTS WETER STILL HAVE PROBLEM.

FILTERS ARE ONLY 7 YEARS OLD.

HOPE YOU CAN HELP WITH SOME SUGGESTIONS

MANY THANKS

JOSEPH GALLO

Thanks for your question Joseph

First I would ask if the pool has algae? You'll need to backwash when the pressure rises and then add back the DE powder. The Flex Tubes might be clogged with debris. oils, and/ or algae as well.

Are the grids placed correctly in the filter housing? If you've changed out the grids, be sure to put them back correctly. If they're not you might get the DE powder on the outside of the grids and that may cause the pressure issue. Be sure the check the owners manual for the amount of DE you need to add.

You can also take the DE filter grids out and see what the pressure is versus when they're in the filter housing tank. If the pressure goes down, then you have a problem with the filter.

You can also call the manufacturer of the DE filter and they can trouble-shoot with you free of charge. They solve problems like yours all the time.

You can look on your filter and get the name and model and then call the manufacturer.

I suggest you use a degreaser designed for cleaning the DE filter grids. Muriatic acid is very acidic and might cause damage to the grids.

A good degreaser is "Filter Fresh" which can be found at most pool supply stores.

If you don't put the right amount of DE powder in after backwash or after cleaning the grids, the oils and residue in the pool will become embedded in the grids causing clogs and high pressure.

Hope this helps and have a great rest of the Summer

Robert
