Green Water From Salt Water Above Ground Pool 16 X 33
by Peggy Danel
(Juliette, GA )
My husband brought the salt water pump and salt from Walmart and changed our pool over to salt.
He added more salt and also change the sand to see if it would help, but so far still green.
Please help, we have people coming over this weekend for Father's day.
Thanks for the question Peggy
There's alot here and a few more things I'll need to know.
The question says "salt water pump" so can I assume that means a salt water chlorinator? If so, what kind did your husband purchase?
Is it installed correctly and is it producing chlorine? It might just need to be adjusted.
If so, he needs to be sure the salinity is correct. The owner's manual should have that information, but an educated guess would be anywhere between 3000ppm - 4500ppm.
Here are a couple of pages about salt pools and salt cells:
Salt Water Swimming Pools
Chlorine Generator
Read them over carefully. Those pages are full of the knowledge I've gained from being the YMCA pool operator for the last 3 years (salt 80,000 gallon pool).
And this answered question:
Which Salt To Use In A Salt Water Swimming Pool?
I'd also like to have your chemical readings:
Chlorine
pH
Alkalinity
Calcium Hardness
Cyanuric acid (stabilizer/CYA)
You have a 16 X 33 pool which holds about 21,000 gallons, so this helps.

You can find your post "Green Water From Salt Water Above Ground Pool 16 X 33 " on the bottom of the above page and on the Q&A page in the "Algae/Green Pool Water" category.
Just click on the comment section on your page and check back to your post every so often. You'll have an answer once I get the above information.
Hope to hear from you soon.
