Heavy Rains & Now My Pool Is Filled With Mud

by Robin

Question

I have a 20'x40' inground pool that was filled and up and running.

With the recent heavy rains it is now filled with mud.

Besides draining it, what can I do?

Thanks for the question Robin

Depending on the kind of filter you have, you might be able to vacuum to WASTE.

This bypasses the filter so it won't get clogged up with mud, but, your pool's water level will drop so you'll need to keep it topped off.

Each situation is different.

I've cleared up pools in Arizona that had a massive amount of dirt and debris.

With others, I talked to the customer, explained the situation, and they said just drain and refill.

Without seeing the pool first hand, I would be unable to say whether you should drain and refill or if it could be vacuumed out.

Your best bet is to read the posts above and if you think there's no hope, and/or after talking to a qualified pool tech, drain and refill.

But the ultimate decision is yours.

Hope this helps and have a fun and safe swimming season.

New Question: How To Clean Out Mud In Pool

By: Austin
Date: June 22, 2011

Heavy rain forced muddy water in pool.

Shut off pump as soon as we noticed, but muddy water ran in to filter system.

Tried to backwash, but never ran clean.

What is my next step?

The above posts will give you some good information.

In situations like this, it needs to be done a case-by-case basis.

Some pools can be vacuumed to WASTE and some need to be drained, cleaned, and refilled.

Look at the links above and if they don't give you the answers you need, it would be best to get a qualified pool tech out to your pool to give you a good estimate.

Due to space and similarity, I'm going to combine your post with "Heavy Rains & Now My Pool Is Filled With Mud" post.
