Home Pool Owner..Fiberglass Pool..Low pH Level..

Since fiberglass lining my pool, the pH level has been too low. I used sodium carbonate but this leaves the water cloudy.

Will sodium bicarbonate work better and if so is it available in tablet form?

What other chemical is available to raise the swimming pool pH level? I thought that bleach would work but I understand it also forms more acid?

Would appreciate any help

Sincerely

Lou

Thanks for your question Lou

I'm a big fan of fiberglass swimming pools. They use about 50% less pool chemicals and last for years.

Sodium bicarbonate will help in raising the pool pH level. You can go to this link to learn the best way to do it:

Swimming Pool pH Levels..Chemistry..Alkalinity..Water..Care

The best and easiest way to add it is in the powder form. You'll just need regular baking soda. 20 Mule Team Borax will also do if you can't find enough bicarb.

Bleach is nothing more than watered down liquid swimming pool chlorine (sodium hypochlorite). This is used as a sanitizer, not to adjust the pH level or total alkalinity. That's done using muriatic acid, which you can also find on the link above, and this one:

Hope this helps and have a great Summer

Robert
