How To Lower A High Salt Level In A Pool

by Shirley
(Wisconsin)

My pool shows high salt levels.

It is a salt water system.

What can I do short of draining the pool to lower the salt lever?

Thanks for the question Shirley

There's really no easy way to lower the salt in a pool. The best and only way is to drain 1/3 - 1/2 of the water, refill with fresh, and balance it out again.

What you don't want to do is increase the chlorine production. If the salt level is high, it needs to be decreased right away.

Have a high salt level is very bad for your chlorine generator. A high level will eventually burn it up.

Which Salt To Use In A Salt Water Swimming Pool?

The best insurance against a high salt level is to check it with a Myron Salt Analog Meter. It's the one I use for the YMCA salt pool.

They're a little pricey, but worth the investment.

Don't simply go on your salt cell reading.

The salinity need to be tested against a manual reading and the Myron Tester is one of the best meters

Hope this helps and have a fun and safe swimming season.
