I Have A Green Pool. The Water Used To Come From Water Wells
by Dr. Amal Hosny
(Egypt, Cairo)
I have water wells and its salinity 43500 mg/l.
When I fill the pool with water its color changes to green after one night and become more cloudy with time.
How to get red and can I treat the water inside the well used because if I use another water well no green color will appear?
The other well have salinity of 76000 mg/l.
The first well which have a problem have iron conc 0.4 mg/l.
How to solve this problem?
Thanks for the question Dr. Hosny
Chlorine won't get rid nor break down metals in the water so don't bother doing a swimming pool shock. Most of the time a pool turns green after filling it with water that has a high metal content (iron and/or copper) and adding pool chlorine.
When there are lots of metals in the water with a normal pH level, the first thing is to "coagulate" which means to bring together the metal particles using a clarifier.
You can go to this link below to get your chemicals:

There are many on the market and will let your filter capture these particles and backwash them out.
When the pool pH is higher and there's less metal in the water you can use a "metal sequestrant" agent which will hold the metal in the water dissolving it in a way where it will not react with hydroxide at higher pH.
If you have lots of metal in the pool water I would first use a clarifier to remove as much metal as possible through filtration. Once that is complete you can use a metal sequestrant to keep any remaining metal dissolved in the water.
If you do have a 2nd well with good water then I would encourage you to try that. Less chemicals in the pool means a better pool, but many times chemicals are a must.
Hope this helps and good luck
