Opening Pool After Not In Use For Two Years
I am buying a house which has a plastic inground pool which wasn't maintained the last two years.
It was filled with water as not to lose its shape but the water wasn't filtered or taken care of.
The pool has a cheap cover which isn't tight on it. What is the cheapest way to open it up for use?
Do I have to empty the water and clean and refill it, or can I let the filter run for a long time and use it after that?
Thanks for the question
A basic rule of thumb is if the water is brown, you'll need to drain and refill. If it's a murky green, then it can be salvaged.
If it were my pool, I would probably do a drain and refill. One year for a closed pool is bad enough, but 2 years and my personal opinion is that's pushing it.
I think it might be a wash when you consider the amount of chemicals it would take to reopen the pool vs. the amount of water use and the start up cost.
Not knowing the size, it's hard to determine with any degree of accuracy how much it would cost.
