Our Swimming Pool Water Is Slightly Milky? Problems..

When we do a test (we use the tablet form in the test kit) the pH level is usually between 7.4 & 7.6 but the chlorine level is a very deep pink? We cannot get it lighter in colour? We have changed from tablet form of chlorine to the powder mixed in a plastic bucket. Hoping you can help us to have nice crystal clear water. Thanking you Rita Robertson P.S. It is an above ground pool Thanks for your question Rita I would highly recommend getting a Taylor Reagent FAS-DPD K-2006 pool water test kit. It's the best on the market. A little getting used to but it's worth the time investment and it will give you the most accurate pool chemical readings. Water Testing Kit..FAQ..Chemistry Testing..Procedures..Balance..Swimming.. Your pool pH level is good, between 7.4ppm - 7.6ppm, so I would advise you to not make any adjustments to that. You can allow it go between 7.6ppm - 7.8ppm. This is the stabilizer for the chlorine. Too much and the water might appear to have a cloudy or milky color to it. Your question says you've been using chlorine tablets. These tablets have CYA in them. You can take the CYA test using your FAS-DPD test kit. If the CYA is more than 20ppm - 40ppm, you might need to drain 1/3 - 1/2 of the water, re-fill, then re-test all the chemicals. Unfortunately there's really no other way to effectively get the CYA down. I will assume the powder chlorine to which you're referring is Calcium Hypochlorite, the granular form the pool chlorine. This is a very good sanitizer, but keep an eye on your calcium hardness level because you are adding calcium each time you manually dose the pool with these chlorine granules. The very deep pink color of your current OTO pool water test kit means that the chlorine level is up a bit high. Allow the level to get down between 1.5ppm - 3.5ppm and again, the CYA between 20ppm - 40ppm.
