Pool Alkalinity Level & Pentair Pool Heater

How low should the alkalinity be in my pool before I use my heater?

Does it have to be totally free?

Thanks for the question

You pool should be kept at a constant alkalinity level between 80 - 120ppm.

The pool alkalinity doesn't need to be at 0 before you can use the heater.

You can go to these links to get the information you need if the alkalinity is a bit too high or low, and how to make the right adjustments.

Swimming Pool Questions and Answers

What I've personally found is the calcium hardness really needs to be in check.

Too high calcium, especially, will put calcium deposits in the heater. This will clog it up and shorten the heater's life.

Calcium Hardness

You need patience when making any chemical adjustments to your pool. This is where many pool owners fail.

Make an adjustment, wait 1 full turnover of the water, normally 10 hours, retest, then make another adjustment if needed.

Remember to keep the filter on 10 - 12 hours in the Summer.

Hope this helps and have a great and safe swimming season.

Robert
