I have an above ground pool, 18x48" and am having trouble controlling green algea. We have tried algeacide, chlorine, etc. but it seems not to be working.
What am I missing?
The weather has been warm and it seems like I am going through chlorine like crazy!
Any tips and suggestions would be great!
Thanks for your question Marianela
Most of the time when your have a lack of chlorine you're going to get pool algae. But the issue is not that you're not putting alot of chlorine in the pool, but why is the chlorine leaving so quickly?
The answer is your pool probably doesn't have the right amount of cyanuric acid (CYA). This is the stabilizer for the chlorine and can be found in either a granular or tablet form.
When the pool doesn't have the proper amount of CYA, you'll be going through chlorine, as you said, like crazy.
You can go to these links to learn about CYA and how to add it to your pool:
I also will encourage you to get a Taylor Reagent FAS-DPD K-2006 pool water test kit. It's the best on the market and will give you the most accurate readings.
