Relaxed Hair & Chlorine Swimming Pool?

by Debbie
(London, England)

I have healthy relaxed hair & since I'm going on holiday my hairdresser told me it would be alright to go swimming in a chlorine swimming pool as long as I washed all the swimming pool chlorine out afterward.

I've bought some Ultra-Swim shampoo and conditioner but what I want to know is this:

How quickly do I need to wash the pool chlorine out of my hair?

Do I need to wash it out as soon as I get out the pool or would it be o.k. to leave my hair for a couple more hours whilst I lay on the sunbed in the sun?

Thank you

Thanks for the question Debbie

I'm not a hairdresser, but I've always error on the side of caution.

If I were you, I'd take a couple of minutes to use your shampoo and conditioner and take a shower right after swimming.

The sunbed and the sun are not going anywhere anytime soon so your best bet would be to take care of business right after you swim.

That way you can rest easy in knowing your hair will be just fine.

You might want to look into getting a well fitted swim cap.

They are inexpensive and will protect your hair from the chemicals in the pool.

I coat my daughter's hair in conditioner before she goes swimming and then wash it and condition it again.

A hair dresser instructed me to do this and last summer my daughter's hair never suffered a bit.

We tried swim caps but they always came off.
