Remove Chlorine Build Up

How To Remove Chlorine Build Up Off A Pool Cover

The cover of our swimming pool has a build up of chlorine and I find it very difficult to remove.

Please give me advice.

Thanking you

Catherine McAnerney

Thanks for the question Catherine

The question is a bit limited in its detail. It doesn't say which kind of pool cover you have or what exactly was done to get rid of the build up.

I can only give a general answer.

First you need to know whether it's a calcium or chlorine build up. If it's calcium, the first thing is to adjust your pool calcium hardness level to between 150 - 250ppm.

Calcium Hardness

You can spray the cover down and use a soft bristle brush to remove any loose particles.

A medium-strong mixture of Epsom Salt and a brush should do the trick.

I've used the following on a few covers and it seemed to work.

You'll need:

  • Baking Soda

  • Lemon Juice

  • White Wine Vinegar

  • Lemon Juice -

Lemon juice is a natural acid. Mix it with warm water, as much as you need to, and scrub the pool cover. Let it sit for a few minutes before rinsing. rinse it well because you don't want any residual lemon juice in the pool.

    Baking Soda -

You can mix the baking soda with water and then scrub, or you can sprinkle it on the cover and scrub with a sponge.

    White Wine Vinegar -

White wine vinegar is a natural acid as well.
You can add the vinegar to the baking soda if you need something stronger.

Hope this helps and let me know how it turns out for you

    Best of luck

    Robert
