Brown Algae Problem
by: Jill Grant

Ah ha! That is exactly what I got in my salt water pool too. When you say sweep, do you mean to take a brush and scrub the gunk off? I just want to be clear.

Clear Salt Water Pool..Nasty Floor..Brown Algae
by: Ann (Pittsburg KS)

My salt pool has a lot of trouble keeping the floor clean. There is brown algae stuck to it. A brand new automatic cleaner can't seem to do the job.

I don't know if its dead algae or alive and multiplying. It's brown with traces of green. The water is clear and beautiful, but ohhhh the mess on the floor!

Thanks for your question Ann

I have a great page on brown algae that I would encourage you to look at. This tells you exactly what you need to do in order to get rid of your brown algae problem.

Before you do a pool shock, be sure to turn off your chlorine generator. You don't want a high level of chlorine going through your chlorine cell.

You can have the best pool cleaner on the market, and still have brown algae or green pool water. If the algae is stuck to the bottom or walls of the pool, you'll need to sweep and shock.

Allow the filter to run 24/7 until the pool algae is gone. Be sure to get, if you don't already have one, a Taylor Reagent FAS-DPD K-2006 test kit. It's the best on the market and the one I use.

Just look at the link above and you should have the pool your deserve this Summer. Best of luck and let me know how this turns out for you.
