Swim In A Chlorine Pool & My Hair & Skin...What Effect??

by Amber
(Kentucky)

Does swimming in a swimming pool(chlorine)and not showering afterward have any effect on my hair and skin?

I really don't want frizzy hair or dried out skin, but I just love swimming.

I try really hard to keep my skin soft, but sometimes the pool chlorine is just too much.

Anything will help...

Thanks for your question Amber

It's always best to shower before and after swimming in any pool.

By showering before you swim can help the pool filter by not clogging it up with oils from your skin and grease from the lotions.

Showering after you swim and using anti-chlorine soap, shampoo, and conditioner, will help your skin and hair look and feel better.

Residential pool chlorine level should be between 1.5ppm - 3.5ppm and commercial pools around 3.5ppm - 4.5ppm, depending on what the state and local laws call for.

If you swim in these pool chlorine conditions and shower right after swimming you shouldn't have any issues with dried out skin or frizzy hair.

You can take it another step and invest in a good swim cap.

Wear this while you swim and it will protect your hair from the pool chlorine and other chemicals that help balance out the pool water chemistry.
