Swimming Pool Algae & Opening A Pool..HELP!!

Question about Swimming Pool Algae and Opening a Pool.
I paid someone to close my pool last year as I am new to salt water pools. This year after reading up and understanding it is no more difficult than our old clorinated pool, I decided to do it myself.
I took the top off and I found a green-black mess of pool algae.
What should I do to clean this out? I am loath to spend money on something someone obviously did wrong in the first place?
Thanks for your question Les
I know I'm going to get many questions about this in the near future.
The first thing I would do is call the person or company and talk to them. Explain your situation and see if they can make right what they did. They may be willing to work with you. If you had a contract when them, take a look at that and see if any guaranties or promises were made.
Obviously I don't know exactly what they did so I can't say what they did wrong, if anything.
To clear up your swimming pool algae, as your described it, you can go to these links:
Remove Swimming Pool Algae..Green..Chemistry..Care..Cloudy Water
Swimming Pool Green Pool Water..Algae..Chemistry..Care
This will give you a good run-down of what you need to do. Pool algae is not uncommon in opening up a pool in the Spring.
Watch you water level as well. Sometimes when people vacuum to waste they will allow the pool water level to get too low and this can cause issues with the filtration, especially when there's more than 1 skimmer, so keep the water level between 1/3" - 1/2" up from the bottom of the skimmer.
For your salt water swimming pool you can go here:
Salt Water Swimming Pools..Saltwater Chlorinator..Pool Chlorine..Care..
And for your chlorine generator maintenance:
Swimming Pool Chlorine Generator..Salt Water..Chlorinator..Chemistry
Get a Taylor Reagent K-2005 or 2006 test kit.
Swimming Pool Water Testing Kit..Chlorine Level..Chemistry..
Congrats. if you already have one. It's the one I've used for years, and the one most pool professionals use, not to mention the Board of Health when they come and test public pools.
Clearing up a mess of green swimming pool algae is not fun, especially when your looking forward to swimming in the Summer. Take you time, think about the issues at hand.
Use the above links and you'll be well on you way to having a great pool.
All the best
