Swimming Pool Bluish-Green..High Chlorine & High pH

Question about possible blue-green swimming pool algae. High pool chlorine and pH level...

Our inground swimming pool has cloudy water and is a bluish-green after being crystal clear.

Took a water sample in and was instructed to add calcium hardness and stablizer (didn't do it at the same time) since additions pool has been cloudy.

Have brushed and vacuumed to remove dust and left Polaris on. Instructed to leave pump continuously for 1 week and backwash daily for 3 days. I have done that and now the pool has a slimy residue and the pool water tests high in chlorine and high in pH.

HELP!

Thanks for your question

By what you have told me, it sounds like you might have blue-green swimming pool algae.

You can go to the above link to give you the best method in taking care of this kind of swimming pool algae.

I would recommend a Taylor Reagent FAS-DPD K-2005 or 2006 pool water testing kit. This one is the most accurate.

Concerning your high pool chlorine and pH levels, I'll need a little more information on that. What are the actual readings? Also, why were you told to add calcium chloride?

As for the stabilizer, or cyanuric acid, (CYA), you'll want to keep that between 20 - 40ppm after you get the pool chlorine level between 1.5ppm - 3.5ppm.

You will want to first get your readings in line with the information found here:

Next is to do a good pool shock:

It is a good idea to leave your swimming pool filter and pump motor running 24/7 and backwash. You'll want to do this to help clear up any residual pool algae and get the system back in working order.

Look over the above links and they will give you all you need to get your swimming pool up and running again.

Get rid of the blue-green pool algae and have a great Summer.
