Swimming Pool pH Level Fine..Water Has A Cloudy & Milky Look
by Pat
(Ontario, Canada)
I added pH up to my pool to raise the swimming pool pH level. The pH level is now ideal and so is the pool chlorine, but now my pool has a cloudy milky look to it. It has been this way for days now. How do I get my clear water back? Thanks for your question Pat
There actually could be hundreds of reasons why you could have cloudy pool water. Here's a few of them:
Cloudy Pool Water In Swimming Pools..Causes..Treatment..Prevention..Solutions
If all the chemicals levels check out, the filtration system is running and in good order, and there's no outside influences such as dirt, pollen, windstorms, etc...I would then check the cyanuric acid (CYA) level. If this is a bit high, above 80ppm - 90ppm, your best bet would be to drain 1/3 - 1/2 of the pool water, do a re-fill, then balance out the chemicals again.
Adjust Your Swimming Pool Chlorine..Chemistry..Salt Water Maintenance..Inground
CYA is the stabilizer for your chlorine and should ready between 20ppm - 40ppm.
High doses of pool chemicals such as calcium hypochlorite (unstabilized or shock chlorine) can cause a high salt level in the pool resulting in cloudy, milky pool water.
If you have cloudy pool water, the first step is to determine the cause before attempting to solve the problem. Don't throw a bunch of clarifiers into the pool. Find the problem and treat it so either it won't happen again, or if it does, you'll know what to do and spend alot less money and save alot of time and frustration.
Hope this helps and have a great Summer
Robert
