Filter Jacuzzi 190l
by: John

I try and vacuum and notice dirt comes right back out to the pool. Last summer I changed the sand and laterals thinking that would help, but it seems like its not filtering. I have a 1.5 horse pump, the pool is a 33' x 18' above ground. The filter worked great two years ago.

I was thinking the o-ring maybe bad under the multi valve, could that be causing the issue? Thanks for the help!

Thanks for the question John

Sand filters are pretty straight forward. Sand going back into the pool normally means a broken lateral. Here are some links to look over:

Replaced Lateral But Still Sand In Pool

Sand In Pool After Changing The Filter

There are normally 3 gaskets found in a MPV. One is found as a seal for the handle. The other goes around the unit, and the last one is a spider gasket. If any of these are broken or torn it can cause a leak.

The MPV housing unit may be cracked as well. If it is the entire unit needs to be replaced. MPVs are fairly simple and there not many moving parts to them. For a leak as yours, I'd check these 3 gaskets.

Sand Filter Rotation Handle
by: Kelley

When I push the handle down to rotate from filter to backwas, I loose pressure? And when I move the handle back to filter, water continues to flow out of the backwas hose. I have to shut off the water flow from the pool, and then restart the pump? Can you help?

Thank you,

Thanks for the question Kelly

The first thing I would look at is the spider gasket. You can simply unscrew the top of the multi port valve and pull up. Inside you'll see the spider gasket and you can change it if needed. Gently scrape out the old gasket, apply Loctite 401 or 403 to glue it in place and use Magic Lube to lube it up.

If that's intact the next couple of areas would be the spring and rotor that are attached to the handle. If one of these is broken or slipping the best thing to do would be to purchase a new MPV. You can get these replaced but sometimes the parts and labor are almost the same amount as getting a new valve.

If you feel your situation is more complex than this, I do phone consultations for a donation of your choice. It makes things go much faster and many people have found it extremely beneficial, saving them time and money in the long run. All your questions will be answered. I have nothing to sell you so you know I'm not bias.

Hope this helps and have a great Summer.
