Water pH in Pool
by Anni
(Mid France,Charentes)
My ph reading is around 7.8 - 8.2. I do not know if I need to add pH plus or pH minus.
When it says: Add acid, what do I add?
My pool goes green very easily. One day it is clear and the next day the green is coming back.
Thanks for the question Anni
To lower your pH level you'll use pool acid. The most common and effective is muriatic acid.
Sodium bicarbonate (regular baking soda) or 20 Mule Team Borax can be used to raise the pH.

Your chlorine is much less effective at a pH over 8.0ppm. This could be part of the problem with your pool going green.
I'd like to have your complete chemical readings:
Chlorine, CYA (cyanuric acid/stabilizer), pH, Alkalinity, Calcium Hardness, and Metals (iron and copper).
It makes troubleshooting much easier. You can get this done at your local pool store.
It would also help to know the size and type of pool you have. Plaster, vinyl, fiberglass, etc...
If you can get back to me with the chemical numbers and I'm sure I can help clear up your pool and keep the problems from happening again.
Hope to hear from you soon.
