Why Does Backwash Keep Running After Shutting Off?
by Sue
(Maine)
After I backwash I turn off and then put on to filter.
The water keeps right on running out my backwash hose.
Why is this?
Also, when vacuuming the pool, the vac head keeps coming off the skimmer and I lose suction.
This pool is 8 yrs old. It has a newer motor, but the sand filter is 8 yrs old.
Maybe I need new sand filter (the big black round thing)
Thanks for the questions Sue

Why Is Air Getting Into The Sand Filter & Pump?
This is a very good post about low skimmer suction. Pretty long, but lots of information and troubleshooting:
How Do I Fix Low Skimmer Suction?
Some of the links above have other links in them that will take you to other pages with more information.
Some of the info. might not be part of your issue, such as a vinyl liner or DE filter, etc...
You can skip over that and just look at the skimmer and suction issues.
It doesn't matter if you have a sand filter or DE filter, if the pool is draining or if you have a suction side leak, you troubleshoot pretty much the same way.
Both will have skimmers and weirs, both will have a pump and pump basket, etc...
