Get Rid Of Ants Around A Pool
We call them suicide Ants!!
Seems to be getting worse every year. All summer long, they follow each other into the pool & die leaving a black line along the side of the pool. Until they fall to the bottom.
My Question Or Comment: Our Pool is in ground with a liner. 32x16. 4ft to 9ft deep.
We have owned it for 10 years, replaced the liner once. Every year we try something different. Ant houses, crystals in the yard, spraying around the pool. Filled in any cracks in the concrete. This year we removed a bush. Nothing seems to work. Our DE filter gets a lot of them, but when we backwash there is a lot of black rushing out. The "sock" in the skimmer gets so full that it looks like coffee grounds when dumping it out. They will collect on anything inside the pool. Almost impossible to skim.
Hi Mary. One of the best ways to get rid of ants is to use cup of warm water, half a cup of sugar, two tablespoons of Borax. Pour the mixture into jar lids and place them around the pool in a heavily concentrated ant area. The sugar attracts them. They'll take it back to the colony and feed it to the queen(s). I bought a 1992 Buick Park Avenue that was infested with ants. It took about 2.5 weeks of constant maintenance but this did the trick.
Keep the area around the pool very clean. No food scraps at all. Wipe up any spills, especially soda, or anything sweet. Ants will always follow water so make sure there are no low spots around the pool where water can collect. Keep grass mowed.
Another good remedy is vinegar. Make a mixture of half vinegar and half water in a spray bottle and spray all around the affected areas.
Remember that you must remove their food source and destroy their environment.
Hope this helps and good luck.
